Court Yard, Town Hall Manchester /

Available as a poster print here.

Right at the centre of Manchester the gables, turrets and spires that decorate the Town Hall courtyard seem more at home in the pages of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale than in the heart of the world’s first industrial city.

Known as one of the greatest examples of the Victorian Neo-Gothic style, and yet an unfamiliar location to the vast majority of people, the ornate façade has long been popular with film crews.

Although most often used as a double for the corridors of power in the Palace of Westminster the building has appeared in many more guises, as the remnants of Elizabethan propaganda materials and wanted posters plastered to the walls at ground level in the courtyard attest.
